Dear Unity Point Community,
Welcome to the Winter edition of The Point! As we embrace the season, we are reminded of the unique qualities that make Unity Point Elementary School such a special place—a community where excellence, creativity, and compassion come together to shape the future.
In this issue, we celebrate the many ways our students, staff, and programs embody these values. You’ll read about remarkable individuals like Lily Chipman, whose dedication to music has been nurtured through our outstanding band program, and Nylah Perlman, a passionate fourth grader leading the charge for environmental stewardship as part of our Environmental Club.
Our school resource officer, Marty Vaughn, plays a pivotal role in keeping our students safe while building meaningful connections with them. “I’m here to help and make sure everyone feels safe,” Marty shares, reflecting the heart of our school’s commitment to safety and inclusion.
Unity Point is also a hub for artistic expression and academic excellence. Island Torphy thrives in our Art Club, where she’s free to explore her creativity and connect with like-minded peers. Meanwhile, the Unity Point Math Team continues to make us proud with their dedication to problem-solving and teamwork, preparing for another strong showing at state competitions.
Character and care are at the core of our community. Through programs like Stephanie Jordan’s Character Counts initiative, our students are learning the importance of respect, responsibility, and kindness. And individuals like Ron Rogers, who has spent nearly three decades teaching and coaching at Unity Point, are shaping not just students’ minds but also their character and resilience.
This issue is a celebration of our collective efforts—students, staff, parents, and community members—all working together to ensure Unity Point remains a place where everyone can thrive. From the dedicated efforts of our Environmental Club to the compassionate care of mental health advocate Aleza Berube, these stories remind us of the profound impact we can have when we come together.
As you turn these pages, I hope you feel the same sense of pride and gratitude I do for our incredible school and community. Together, we are creating a brighter future for our children—one act of kindness, one moment of curiosity, and one step forward at a time.
Thank you for your unwavering support of Unity Point Elementary School.
Warm regards,
Dr. Lori James-Gross
Superintendent, Unity Point Elementary School
