Dear Litchfield Community,

There is a question that every community faces eventually, whether it asks it aloud or not: Are we doing enough for the young people in our care?

This issue of our magazine exists because Litchfield chose to ask that question out loud — and then did something about it.

Over the course of six evening sessions, something remarkable took shape in this community. A group of parents, educators, students, business owners, longtime residents, and newer arrivals pulled up chairs and got to work. They came from different backgrounds, held different opinions, and saw the district through entirely different eyes. A first-grade teacher who wanted to make sure big ideas didn't crush the teachers who'd have to carry them out. A licensed counselor who works daily with at-risk youth and wanted their reality in the room. An engineer turned entrepreneur who believes you eventually have to hook the motor up and see if the machine spins. A twenty-seven-year coach who knows that showing up before anyone else does is how careers are built. And three students — a senior, a junior, and a sophomore — who walked into a room full of adults and, once they understood the invitation was genuine, jumped in and participated.

What they produced together wasn't just a five-year plan. It was a declaration of investment.

The stories in this issue are a portrait of that investment — and of the people behind it. Parents who ran pros-and-cons lists between Litchfield and neighboring towns and chose Litchfield, deliberately. Alumni who never really left. Families who came back. A woman who has spent forty years scheduling reunions for the Class of 1983 because she simply can't stop organizing. A domestic violence advocate whose nonverbal son is starting kindergarten this fall, and who says the district has already met her family where they are. A city council member who helped raise two boys who needed extra support, and who sat in that planning room specifically to make sure kids like them didn't get left out of the vision.

Every one of these voices matters. Every one of these stories is Litchfield.

We are grateful to share them with you — and deeply encouraged by what they represent. Litchfield isn't waiting for its future to arrive. It is building it.
