Dear Mount Olive CUSD 5 Community,
Spring is a season of renewal, making it the perfect time to celebrate the incredible stories in this issue of The Olive Branch. From our youngest learners to those preparing for their next steps beyond high school, this edition highlights the strength and dedication of our students, educators, and community.
Mrs. Schulte, in preschool, nurtures a love for learning by encouraging curiosity and creativity in every lesson. That early foundation paves the way for a lifelong journey of education, fostering confidence and a passion for discovery. The strong foundation continues with Breanna Seely and Elizabeth Childers, who ensure our kindergarteners develop a love of learning through hands-on experiences. That same energy thrives in our second-grade students, whose big dreams and even bigger personalities remind us of the excitement of discovery.
As students grow, they are guided by passionate educators like Rachel Hutchins, who fosters a love of learning in her fifth-grade classroom. With engaging lessons and a supportive environment, she encourages students to think critically, ask questions, and embrace challenges with confidence. Through her guidance, students develop not only academic skills but also a lifelong curiosity and enthusiasm for learning.
Our high school students continue to shine, whether through Josh Martin’s commitment to expanding career pathways, Macoupin County CEO’s entrepreneurial program, or the resilience of students like Lexi Crossno and Sarah Lesko, who have helped sustain and strengthen the Mount Olive band program.
Beyond the classroom, Mount Olive graduates like Carrie Grandidier and Jacob “Jake” Bailey prove that success takes many forms—whether in the medical field or the skilled trades, their achievements reflect the values they learned at Mt. Olive CUSD #5.
And as students prepare for graduation, Trisha Monke and Nick Simmons, along with their colleagues at Mr. Olive High School, are making sure the milestone is more than just a ceremony—it’s a true celebration of every student's journey and future.
I invite you to explore the inspiring stories in this issue and celebrate the remarkable students, teachers, and staff who make Mount Olive Schools a place where every learner thrives. Thank you for your continued support—we are building something special, together.
Sincerely,
Dr. Brandi Kelly
Superintendent, Mount Olive CUSD 5
