Kindergarten Wisdom: Big Dreams and Bigger Personalities

A Lighthearted Look at Life in Mount Olive’s Youngest Classrooms

If you ever need a fresh perspective on life, spend some time with a group of kindergarteners. They have all the confidence of CEOs, the unfiltered honesty of stand-up comedians, and an enthusiasm for learning that could inspire just about anyone.

Recently, we sat down with a group of Mount Olive’s youngest scholars to ask them what kindergarten is all about. Their answers? Let’s just say, no two were the same.

Morning Jobs and Important Business

To the untrained eye, kindergarten might look like finger painting and snack time, but these students set the record straight. Kindergarten is serious business.

“In the morning, we do our jobs,” explained Ada. “Like putting our folders in the basket, getting a book, hanging up our coat and backpack.

“You get to pick what you do,” added another student. “You can draw or do STEM bins.

STEM bins? We were intrigued.

Rocket Math: The Great Competition

One thing that became clear very quickly—kindergarteners love Rocket Math.

“It’s where you get 20 questions, and you have to answer them in one minute,” explained Harley, clearly very proud of her math skills. “If you get them all right, you get to level up!”

The entire group eagerly chimed in with their progress. “I’m on subtraction!” “I’m on N!” “I’m on S!” “I just started A!”

It was clear that Rocket Math wasn’t just an activity—it was a full-blown competition. And from the way these five- and six-year-olds were talking, you’d think they were training for the math Olympics.

Big Dreams: The Future is Bright (and Hilarious)

Ask a kindergartener what they want to be when they grow up, and you’re in for some incredible answers.

“I want to be a teacher,” declared one student.

“Me too!” added another.

“Ballerina,” someone else chimed in confidently.

“I want to be a doctor.”

“A farmer.”

When we pointed out that between the group, we had future educators, healthcare professionals, dancers, and food providers, it was met with nods of approval. “Yeah, that sounds about right,” one student confirmed.

But the best part? The complete self-assurance in every answer. Kindergarteners don’t just dream big—they know they can do anything.

The Tale of Sunny the Cow

In the middle of discussing the finer points of playtime, a completely unexpected topic emerged—Sunny, the class cow.

“She’s a real cow,” one student explained. “And sometimes we graph her.”

Wait—graph her?

“Yeah, we guess how much she weighs.”

A heated debate followed. “She’s definitely 100 pounds.” “No, at least a hundred-something.” “She’s not that young.”

One thing was for sure—Sunny was a big deal.

Magic Wands and Helping Hands

To wrap things up, we asked the class one final question: If you had a magic wand and could do anything, what would you do?

The responses were enough to make even the most cynical adult a little teary-eyed.

“I would help people.”

“Me too.”

“I would help people all the time.”

And just like that, the simplest, most profound truth was spoken. If you ever wonder what’s right with the world, just sit down with a group of kindergarteners. They’ll remind you that kindness, curiosity, and big dreams are alive and well in Mount Olive’s youngest students.

And if you’ve got a few spare minutes, maybe check in on Sunny the cow.
