Welcome to the Spring Issue of Spirit of CHS

There is a rhythm to a school year that becomes familiar over time—the cadence of practices and performances, the steady march toward graduation, and the daily routines that quietly shape who our students are becoming. This issue of Spirit of CHS offers a closer look at what’s happening within that rhythm—and why it matters.

Inside these pages, you’ll meet students finding their way in different directions. Some are excelling academically at the highest levels, while others are discovering their strengths through hands-on work, athletics, or creative pursuits. In each case, what stands out is not perfection, but persistence—the willingness to keep showing up, to work through challenges, and to grow.

You’ll see that success here doesn’t follow a single path. For some, it means preparing for college. For others, it means gaining real-world skills that lead directly into careers. In one remarkable example, students have designed and built a home—an enduring symbol of what can happen when young people are trusted with meaningful responsibility.

A strong sense of service runs throughout this issue as well. Whether it’s students raising funds for Special Olympics, helping the school operate behind the scenes, or creating opportunities for others to feel included, these stories remind us that leadership often looks like quiet, consistent effort on behalf of others.

Athletics continue to play an important role in shaping character and community. The lessons learned through competition—resilience, accountability, and teamwork—extend far beyond the field. As one student put it, sometimes the mindset is simple: keep pushing, because the difficult moments don’t last.

This issue also gives us the opportunity to reflect on legacy. As two longtime educators prepare for retirement, their stories remind us that the true impact of a career in education is measured in relationships. What they will miss most—the students—is also what they have given the most to over the years.

Centralia High School is a place where students find their place. Some arrive with a clear vision. Others discover it along the way. Together, they form a community grounded in opportunity, connection, and growth.

To our families, alumni, and community members, thank you for your continued support. Your presence and encouragement make a meaningful difference in the lives of our students.

As you read this issue, I hope you feel a sense of pride in the many ways our students are learning, contributing, and preparing for what comes next.

With appreciation,
Dr. Chuck Lane
