This issue of The Broadcast captures so much of what makes Salem Community High School extraordinary—its people, its programs, and the sense of community that connects them. Every story you’ll read reflects the dedication, creativity, and pride that define what it means to be a Wildcat.
You’ll see it in our teachers, who continue to blend innovation with care. From renovated science labs that inspire new curiosity, to classrooms where English and communication students are finding their voices, to our music program that brings people together in rhythm and purpose—our staff keeps raising the bar. Their work reminds us that great schools aren’t built only by facilities, but by the hearts of those who fill them.
Our students, too, continue to amaze us with their talent and determination. Whether it’s on the golf course, on stage, or in the classroom, they’re proving that success is about more than achievement—it’s about attitude, effort, and learning from every challenge. Even our youngest leaders are showing us what’s possible when they combine skill with sportsmanship, patience, and pride.
And of course, we continue to celebrate those who make Salem such a strong, supportive place to learn and grow. From the new faces bringing energy to our staff, to those whose careers reflect a lifetime of service and mentorship, we are reminded every day that this school stands on the shoulders of those who came before—and that we have a responsibility to carry that tradition forward.
Thank you for being part of a community that believes in its schools, supports its educators, and champions its young people. Salem’s strength has always come from its people, and as you turn these pages, I hope you’ll see exactly what I do each day: a school, and a town, moving forward—together.
With #SalemWildcat Pride,
Dr. Brad Detering
