Spring | 2026
Welcome to the Spring Issue of Byron CUSD 226
One of the things that makes Byron special is not just what our students achieve—but in how many different directions they’re able to pursue it.
As you read through this issue, you’ll see that range come to life. You’ll meet students who are competing at the highest levels—on the court, in the pool, and on the mat—where success can be measured in hundredths of a point or the difference of a single possession. You’ll see what it takes to get there: years of work, early mornings, long seasons, and the discipline to keep going when progress is anything but guaranteed.
You’ll also meet students who are building, designing, and solving problems in ways that extend far beyond the classroom. From machining precision components for robotics competitions to maintaining 3D printing labs and helping younger students discover what’s possible, they are learning by doing—developing skills that translate directly into the real world.
At the same time, creativity is alive in every corner of the district. In our fine arts programs, students are performing, creating, and expressing themselves at a remarkable level—balancing music, theater, speech, and visual art in ways that reflect both talent and commitment. In our classrooms, creativity is not reserved for a few—it’s something every student is asked to build, one project at a time.
You’ll also see how deeply our students are connected to the world around them. Whether it’s a student navigating multiple languages and cultures, an exchange student embracing new opportunities in a small-town school, or a future agriculture teacher shaped by life on a working farm, our students bring diverse experiences that strengthen our entire community.
Just as important are the people who guide them. You’ll read about educators who have spent decades in our classrooms, helping students find clarity, confidence, and direction. You’ll see leaders who are intentional about building relationships, creating environments where students feel seen, supported, and understood—especially during the years when that matters most.
And throughout it all, you’ll find a strong sense of service. Students giving their time not just to meet a requirement, but to discover purpose. Learning that the impact they make on others often becomes the clearest path to understanding themselves.
That is what defines Byron.
It is a place where students are encouraged to explore widely, work hard, and take ownership of who they are becoming—supported every step of the way by a community that believes in them.
To our families, staff, and community members, thank you for the role you play in making all of this possible. Your support continues to create opportunities that prepare our students for whatever comes next.
I hope this issue leaves you with a deep sense of pride in Byron Schools and in the people who make this such an exceptional place to learn and grow.
With appreciation,
Buster Barton
