Dear Macomb CUSD 185 Community,
Welcome to the Spring issue of Flight Path! As the seasons change, so too do the incredible stories of growth, achievement, and dedication within our schools. Each story in this issue is a testament to the strength of our students, the passion of our educators, and the unwavering support of our community.
One of the most inspiring aspects of education is the way it prepares students for life beyond the classroom. This issue brings that to life in so many ways. Take, for example, Bomber Brew, where students are gaining hands-on business experience while learning the invaluable skills of teamwork, responsibility, and confidence. Or the Edison robotics program, which has exploded in popularity, igniting curiosity and problem-solving skills in our young learners as they build and program their own robots.
We also celebrate the incredible individual journeys of students like Kelly Ladd, who has carved her own path in wrestling, proving that perseverance and determination can break barriers and set new records. Meanwhile, Maddie McClure has embraced the power of artistic expression, using her talent to capture the world around her while excelling in athletics and theater. Tyler Thurman discovered a new passion beyond the football field, finding his true calling in the Scholastic Bowl, where he has excelled on a national level.
Of course, none of this would be possible without the educators and support staff who dedicate their lives to shaping the future. This issue honors teachers like Marilyn Keeney, who has spent 45 years making every child feel valued and heard, and Martina Rodgers, who ensures that every student in her classroom sees possibilities rather than limitations. We also recognize the work of our social work team, who provide critical emotional and mental health support to help students thrive inside and outside the classroom.
Beyond the classroom, our district continues to build strong bridges between families and schools. The Parent Mentor Program is creating powerful connections by bringing parents into our classrooms, strengthening student learning, and even launching new careers in education. And young students like Cece Kluesner remind us that the future is bright with endless possibilities—whether in science, the arts, or wherever curiosity leads.
Music also plays a vital role in our students’ development, and in this issue, we explore how the Macomb music program nurtures confidence, discipline, and creativity in young musicians. Whether through athletics, the arts, or innovative classroom experiences, our students are proving that learning extends far beyond textbooks—it’s about discovering who they are and what they can achieve.
As you turn the pages of this issue, I encourage you to celebrate the remarkable individuals who make up our school district. Their hard work, resilience, and passion inspire us all. Thank you for your continued support of our schools—together, we are lifting our students to new heights.
Sincerely,
Dr. Patrick M. Twomey
Superintendent, Macomb CUSD 185
