As we settle into the rhythm of winter, I am reminded of the enduring strength, warmth, and support that make our Mercer County community truly extraordinary. It is my privilege to introduce this Winter issue of Eagle Eye, a celebration of the people, stories, and achievements that define our schools and connect us as one.
Inside these pages, you’ll meet students like Weston Swanson and Finlee Schrock, who remind us of the joy and curiosity of learning. Weston’s passion for basketball and geography shines, while Finlee dreams of a future in ag business, balancing her love for math and history with a deep connection to her rural roots. These young learners reflect the promise of Mercer County’s future.
You’ll also read about Silas Hays, an eighth grader whose thoughtful nature and drive to solve problems position him for a bright path ahead. Whether he’s running cross country, crafting with his hands, or imagining ways to improve the world, Silas embodies the creativity and resilience we strive to nurture in every student.
Our feature stories highlight not just students but also the dedicated staff who make our district exceptional. You’ll meet Ernie Dillie, Jr., who has spent over 15 years ensuring our students arrive safely to school and home again, leaving an indelible mark on Mercer County as he prepares for retirement. His story is a testament to hard work and the quiet, impactful leadership that makes our schools thrive.
This issue also celebrates the importance of building strong foundations. From our Pre-K program, which fosters growth in Mercer County’s youngest learners, to the guidance and support of teachers and families, each story showcases how our schools and community work together to shape the future.
The spirit of Mercer County lies not just in the classrooms and hallways but in every home, farm, and business that supports our district. Your care, encouragement, and investment in our schools create opportunities that extend far beyond the school day. Together, we are writing the story of Mercer County—a story of collaboration, perseverance, and shared hope for the generations to come.
Thank you for being an essential part of this journey.
Warm regards,
Tim Farquer
Superintendent, Mercer County School District 404
