if you see this note, this view isn't fully refined.

There is something special about a place where people choose to invest their lives—where time, care, and commitment are poured into something greater than any one individual. As I reflect on this Spring issue of Connections47, I’m reminded once again that Benton Grade School is exactly that kind of place.

In these pages, you will meet individuals at many different points along their journey, from the very first steps of a kindergartener learning to believe, “I’m smart, and I can do hard things,” to eighth graders preparing to take their next steps into high school and beyond. Along the way, you’ll also encounter the adults who have quietly and faithfully shaped those journeys, often over decades.

This issue carries a meaningful sense of transition. We celebrate educators like Ron McGee and Kristi Picklesimer, whose careers remind us that teaching is not simply about lessons delivered, but about lives touched. Whether it’s a teacher who once doubted his own abilities but now ensures no child feels unseen, or a first-grade educator who has spent a lifetime helping children discover their confidence, their legacies will continue to ripple through our community for years to come.

At the same time, we are reminded that Benton is a place people return to. You’ll read about a young graduate who has come back to serve students with compassion and care, finding joy in helping children experience those breakthrough moments when something finally clicks. You’ll also see how new beginnings unfold here, as students like Maria discover that a fresh start can open doors they never imagined, and that a welcoming school community can change the trajectory of a life.

Our students’ stories reflect a wide range of talents, interests, and aspirations. From music and athletics to quiet perseverance in the classroom, they show us what growth really looks like. Some are finding their rhythm through band and performance. Others are learning discipline through sports or discovering strength in simply sticking with something when it gets hard. Some are planning for college, while others are thoughtfully exploring skilled trades and practical pathways that will allow them to contribute meaningfully to their families and community.

What ties all of these stories together is not a single definition of success, but a shared foundation—one built on relationships. Time and again, you’ll see the importance of having the right people around you: teachers who care, classmates who encourage, families who support, and a community that believes in its young people.

That sense of service extends beyond the classroom as well. Through leadership at the board level and throughout the district, there is a consistent focus on doing what is best for students. It is a reminder that strong schools do not happen by accident—they are built through the steady, collective efforts of people who are willing to serve.

To the families, community members, and supporters of Benton Grade School, please know how much your role matters in all of this. The opportunities our students experience, the support our staff feels, and the culture we continue to build are all made possible because of your belief in this school and in the young people it serves.

As you read through this issue, I hope you feel a sense of pride—not just in the individual stories, but in the collective story we are writing together here in Benton. It is a story of care, perseverance, growth, and possibility.

And most importantly, it is a story that continues—every single day—because of you.

With gratitude,
