Every day at Benton Grade School, we see stories unfolding that remind us why education is so much more than lessons and grades. It’s about people—students finding their voices, teachers following their callings, and a community that shows up with open hearts and helping hands. This issue of Connections47 celebrates that spirit.
You’ll meet Jenna Janello, whose kindergarten classroom hums with the joyful sound of discovery as she helps our youngest learners take their first steps toward literacy and confidence. Mallory McClerren brings that same energy to third grade, inspiring independence and resilience in her students through patient guidance and a caring heart.
Our district continues to attract people who lead with purpose. Maria Redding and Ashlyn Sizemore are two of several paraprofessionals whose compassion and dedication remind us that every role in a school is vital. Their stories reveal how strength, faith, and perseverance shape both classrooms and lives.
You’ll also find stories of creativity and renewal. Ari Remm, an eighth grader with a voice that fills the room, shares her musical journey and dreams of one day becoming a vocal coach. In Melody in Motion, her story reminds us how the arts give students a stage to grow in confidence and self-expression. Meanwhile, Maria Redding’s lavender farm, Mallory’s new classroom, and Jenna’s alphabet lessons all echo one theme: growth in motion.
We’re equally proud of our staff who turn compassion into action—like those featured in Guiding Hearts and Strength and Heart, whose quiet work behind the scenes changes the trajectory for children who need them most. And in Inspiring Confidence, New Purpose, and Brighter Horizons, you’ll see how mentorship, teamwork, and faith keep our school community thriving.
Each story in this issue captures what makes Benton special—a belief that learning happens best when people care deeply about one another. Whether you are a parent, grandparent, graduate, or community partner, you are part of that story.
We’re proud of where we’ve been and even more excited for where we’re going. Thank you for helping us build a future bright with promise, hope, and connection.
With gratitude,
Dr. Steve Smith
