Spring | 2026

Welcome to the Spring Issue of Martinsville Schools

If there is a single thread that runs through this issue, it is this: Martinsville is a place where people show up—for each other, and especially for kids.

You’ll see it in the Parent Teacher Organization, where every decision is guided by a simple belief that no child should ever feel left out. You’ll see it in the Booster Club, where community members quietly remove barriers so every student has the chance to participate, compete, and belong. These are not small efforts—they are the foundation of a school system that reflects the values of the community around it.

You’ll also see it in the people who have chosen to invest their lives here. A school nurse who found her way to Martinsville and now cares for nearly every student in our district. A deputy returning to the same halls he once walked, building relationships and helping students make thoughtful decisions. Staff members across our buildings—often behind the scenes—who keep everything running with care, patience, and an eye for what each child might need in the moment.

Our students are stepping into that same spirit of responsibility. High schoolers are working in elementary classrooms, learning how to guide and support younger learners. Others are exploring leadership through organizations like FBLA, representing Martinsville beyond our walls with confidence and professionalism. Some are discovering their voice on stage, while others are learning life skills in classrooms that prepare them for independence and future careers.

There is also something being built here over time. From youth athletics programs that begin in the earliest grades to opportunities that develop confidence, discipline, and teamwork, we are investing in growth that doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a long-term commitment—one that reflects a shared belief in what our students can become.

And sometimes, that growth looks like curiosity and persistence at home—families working together on science fair projects, learning that real discovery often comes with unexpected challenges and the determination to see something through.

What makes Martinsville Schools special is not any one program or person. It is the collective effort.

It is the understanding that these are our students, and their success belongs to all of us.

Thank you for the many ways you continue to support, encourage, and invest in Martinsville Schools.

With appreciation,
Robert Waggoner
