A Welcome to the Fall 2024 Issue of The One

Dear Momence Community,

It is my privilege to welcome you to the Fall 2024 issue of The One. This issue is particularly meaningful as we take a moment to honor the service and sacrifice of military veterans, many of whom are pillars of our Momence community. These men and women have not only protected our nation but have also enriched our lives here at home with their wisdom, leadership, and dedication to service.

The stories we share in this issue are a tribute to these remarkable individuals. Among them are veterans who continue to shape our schools and community, providing an invaluable example for our students. Their journeys remind us of the deep connection between military service and the values we cherish—duty, resilience, and a commitment to the greater good.

I’m also excited to highlight one of our students who is following in these footsteps, preparing to embark on her own journey of service. She is currently exploring the path of enlistment, with hopes of joining either the U.S. Army or U.S. Navy. Her story is one of reflection, courage, and thoughtful consideration, as she weighs her options to serve our country. It is inspiring to see our young people carry forward the tradition of service with such earnest dedication.

This issue also features stories of veterans whose service extends far beyond their time in uniform, touching the lives of their children, grandchildren, and the broader community. The strength of these families is a testament to the enduring impact of military service, and we honor not only those who have served but also those who have supported them along the way.

As we begin this new season, I encourage you to take a moment to read these powerful stories, to reflect on the sacrifices that have been made, and to consider how we can all work together to uphold the values our veterans fought to protect.

Thank you for your continued support of our schools and for joining us in paying tribute to those who have given so much for all of us.

Sincerely,
Shannon Anderson
Superintendent, Momence CUSD 1
