Welcome to the Spring Issue of The Broadcast
A Season of New Beginnings at Salem Community High School
Spring is a season of fresh starts, bold dreams, and new possibilities—and nowhere is that more evident than here at Salem Community High School. Every day, our students and educators step forward into new challenges, new ambitions, and new chapters in their lives, proving that growth is more than a season—it’s a mindset.
This issue of The Broadcast is dedicated to the journeys unfolding around us. Some are just beginning, others are reaching long-awaited milestones, but all share a common thread: the courage to move forward, to believe in what’s possible, and to embrace the unknown with confidence.
For some, that journey takes place on stage, on the field, or in the classroom. Olivia Howe has left her mark as a drum major, actor, and singer, and now, she’s setting her sights on using music and faith to guide others. Keyton King wrestled his way to an incredible 100 wins in just three years—proving that perseverance and late starts don’t stop champions from rising.
In our business and leadership circles, our students are taking charge of their futures in ways that inspire us all. The CEO Program has been a launching pad for students like Silas Moats, Preslee Harris, and Kellen Bolen, who aren’t just learning about business—they’re running their own. Their entrepreneurial spirit is a testament to the drive and ambition found in our hallways.
Meanwhile, our yearbook team, led by students like KJ Engel and Sarah Morris, reminds us that new beginnings also mean preserving the memories that shape us. Their work ensures that today’s moments become tomorrow’s stories.
And speaking of stories, some of the most meaningful journeys begin in the quiet work behind the scenes. From educators like John Boles, Cris Rector, and Stacey Beavin, who are closing one chapter and leaving a lasting legacy, to the dedicated cafeteria staff who ensure that every student is fed, cared for, and supported, every role in this school is part of a larger journey.
New beginnings come in many forms. For some, it’s graduation. For others, it’s taking on a new challenge. And for all of us, it’s recognizing that every step forward is a chance to grow, to lead, and to shape the future.
To our students, our staff, and our community—may this spring bring new opportunities, renewed energy, and the courage to pursue all that lies ahead.
Welcome to the Spring Issue of The Broadcast—a celebration of where we’re going, and the bold dreams that will take us there.
With #SalemWildcatPride,
Dr. Brad Detering, Superintendent
