In every season, our schools reveal something remarkable about who we are as a community. But this winter, as we gathered the stories for this issue of Pilot!, I found myself returning again and again to one simple truth: Cairo thrives because its people do.
Across these pages, you’ll meet students discovering unexpected talents, teachers who guide with steadiness and heart, and staff members whose quiet dedication strengthens every hallway in ways not always seen but always felt. You’ll meet young people learning to use their voices, to take pride in where they come from, and to believe deeply in where they are going. And you’ll meet adults—some new to Cairo, some rooted here for generations—who show, day after day, what it means to invest in this place and in the children who will shape its future.
What moves me most about this collection is the sense of purpose running through it. You’ll see hands building, minds stretching, and hearts growing. You’ll see people stepping into leadership, taking care of one another, and choosing optimism even when life has made it difficult. You’ll see examples of resilience that can’t be taught in a textbook, and you’ll feel the steady encouragement that so many of our young people receive from the adults who believe in them.
Cairo is a community where effort matters, where potential is recognized, and where a kind word can change the direction of someone’s day. It is a place where students are reminded that strength comes in many forms—courage, kindness, persistence, creativity—and that each of those strengths has a home here.
As you read this issue, I hope you feel the same pride I do. These stories show us not only what our students and staff are doing, but who they are becoming. And they remind us that progress is not always loud; sometimes it is the quiet turning of a page, the steady reaching for the next goal, the simple belief that better days are ahead.
Thank you for supporting Cairo Schools. Together, we continue to lift our children, our families, and our future.
Warmly,
Pamela Rizkallah
