Dear Cairo Schools Family,
As spring blooms across our community and the school year winds down, I'm filled with pride reflecting on the remarkable achievements and dedication that define our school district. This issue of "Pilot!" showcases the heart and soul of Cairo Schools – the people who make our buildings more than just places of learning, but true centers of community and growth.
Our students continue to excel and inspire. The 8th grade boys basketball team's state championship represents more than athletic achievement – it exemplifies the "family spirit" that Coaches Woodson, Davis, and Brown have cultivated, teaching lessons of perseverance and teamwork that extend far beyond the court. Meanwhile, students like De'Aria Jones in our EKG program and Lamarqus Woods, who has "turned the corner" this year, demonstrate how character development remains central to our educational mission.
Behind every successful school are the dedicated staff members who often work behind the scenes. From Jasper Cornelius and Miss Nena keeping our buildings clean and welcoming, to our honored district secretaries who provide the administrative foundation for everything we do, to School Nurse Ciearra McAllister creating a haven of care and comfort – these individuals are the backbone of our district's success.
Our teachers bring passion and expertise to the classroom daily.
Tammie Boone's dedication to helping first graders discover the joy of reading, Pam Salazar's diverse experience enriching social studies, and Jamaal Jones's remarkable commitment to our special education students all reflect the exceptional educators shaping our children's futures.
Athletic Director Larry Wood's deep connections with our students and community, Monica Woodson's leadership of our spirited cheerleading program, and countless others demonstrate that Cairo USD 1 is more than a school district – we are a family committed to nurturing the potential in every child.
As we move through the final months of this school year, I invite you to celebrate these stories and recognize the countless untold ones happening in our classrooms, hallways, and fields every day. Together, we continue building on Cairo's proud legacy while preparing our students for bright futures.
Thank you for your continued support of our schools and the children we serve.
With Pilot Pride,
Dr. Ronald T. Ferrell, Interim Superintendent
Cairo USD 1
