Welcome to the Spring Issue of Inside The Nest

In a community like ours, some of the most important things are built quietly.

They are built through steady effort, through people who care deeply, and through a shared belief that young people deserve both strong roots and real opportunity. As you read through this issue, I think you will see that spirit again and again.

In these pages, you will meet students who are learning to embrace challenge rather than avoid it. Some are discovering that growth comes through repetition, revision, and the courage to try again. Others are finding their voice, their confidence, and their direction through experiences that are helping them imagine a future they can truly claim as their own.

You will also see how powerfully opportunity matters. Here, we believe education should open doors, not narrow them. That belief lives in our classrooms, in our pathway programs, and in the people who invest their time and talent so students can connect what they are learning today to the possibilities waiting for them tomorrow. Whether through engineering, education, reading, music, or hands-on problem solving, our students are being invited to think deeply, work hard, and see themselves as capable of more.

Another important thread running through these stories is the strength of community support. You will read about individuals who have chosen to give back in lasting ways—people whose generosity, mentorship, and vision continue to shape what is possible for the next generation. Some have done so from the boardroom, some from a classroom, some from a bus seat, some from a farm, and some simply by showing up when help was needed. Together, they remind us that schools are strongest when a community stands beside them.

And at the heart of it all is belonging.

Our students thrive when they feel known, welcomed, and valued. They thrive when adults notice them, encourage them, and make room for them to grow. They thrive when mistakes are treated as part of learning and when each new day begins with the message that they matter.

That is what makes Forrestville Valley Schools so special.

To our families, staff, alumni, and community members, thank you for the many ways you help build this place. Your support continues to shape lives in visible and invisible ways.

I hope this issue leaves you feeling proud of our schools, our people, and the future we are building together.

With appreciation,

Sheri Smith, Superintendent
