Ryder Heisner: A Sixth Grader with Big Ideas
"Life isn’t that hard if you try.”

At 12 years old, Ryder Heisner is navigating the excitement and challenges of sixth grade at Meridian CUSD #101. A creative and curious student, Ryder balances his love for gaming, his dreams of becoming a YouTuber, and his vision for the school he’s called home since the second grade.
For Ryder, creativity shines through in the things he loves most: gaming, YouTube, and Pokémon. He dreams of starting a YouTube channel to share his adventures with the world, from playing games like Fortnite and Minecraft to showcasing his favorite Pokémon, especially Charizard. “I want to have fun with it and just share my life,” he says of his YouTube aspirations.
Ryder’s love for gaming goes beyond just playing. He enjoys discussing strategies with friends and exploring the immersive worlds these games offer. Whether it’s solving puzzles in Minecraft or competing in Fortnite battles, Ryder finds inspiration in the virtual adventures that fuel his imagination.
Since joining Meridian in second grade, Ryder has developed strong connections with his classmates and teachers. His favorite subject is math, which he finds both enjoyable and challenging. Writing, on the other hand, doesn’t spark the same enthusiasm. “It’s not my favorite,” he admits with a grin.
One of Ryder’s favorite teachers is Mr. Green, who teaches history. “We get to have a lot of fun, but we also do work,” Ryder explains. Free time in Mr. Green’s class is a highlight, where Ryder and his classmates often watch YouTube videos on their computers.
Ryder also appreciates the friendships he’s built at school. With a tight-knit group of 11 close friends, he enjoys playing basketball and spending time together. While he doesn’t play on the school team, he loves shooting hoops and competing in games like Horse with his siblings and friends.
Ryder’s dreams extend far beyond gaming and YouTube. He hopes to one day help his family by providing financial support. “I’d give them money to pay off whatever they need,” he says, showing his caring and generous nature.
He also has a vision for Meridian’s future. Ryder imagines a larger school with more classrooms and resources, creating a better environment for students and teachers alike. “A bigger school would be great,” he says, echoing the hopes of many of his classmates.
When asked to describe himself in three words, Ryder chooses “a pretty awesome kid.” His self-confidence is matched by a thoughtful outlook on life. “Life isn’t that hard if you try,” he shares, offering advice he’s learned from his father. Ryder’s dad, who works at a lamp factory, has been a source of encouragement and wisdom.
Ryder’s belief in self-reliance and perseverance reflects the values instilled in him by his family and his school community. His ability to balance fun, creativity, and a sense of responsibility makes him stand out among his peers.
