Spring | 2026

Welcome to the Spring Issue of Fusion

Dr. Lisa Thomas, Superintendent, Meridian CUSD #101

One of the most meaningful things about Meridian is how often our stories come full circle.

As you read this spring issue of Fusion, you will see that theme throughout—students growing into their potential, graduates returning to serve, and a community that continues to invest in itself across generations.

You will meet students like Canaa, who has found her footing here and now looks ahead to a future in nursing, supported by teachers she describes as “like parents.” You will see that same sense of belonging in Makiyah, who came from larger schools and discovered that at Meridian, relationships truly matter.

You will also see it in the steady commitment of students like Kynadei, balancing academics, multiple sports, and friendships that stretch back years, and in LaFonzo, who chose to try basketball for the first time—stepping forward with confidence and a willingness to grow.

This issue also reflects something we value deeply: Meridian is not just a place people attend—it is a place they return to.

You will read about educators like Melissa Hawkins and Donisha Patterson, whose journeys brought them back to the classrooms that helped shape them, and Carol Gilliland, who proudly carries her identity as a lifelong Bobcat. Their stories remind us that education here is deeply personal.

You will also see the many ways our community supports students and families—from Kristy Duncan’s work ensuring every child has what they need to succeed, to Roberta Johnson’s leadership in transportation, grounded in years of connection with students and families.

And beyond our schools, Mayor Allison Madison’s story reflects a life dedicated to giving back to the community that raised her.

There are also stories here that speak to resilience—individuals who have faced hardship and found strength through the support of those around them.

This is Meridian—a place where people are known, supported, and encouraged to grow.

Thank you for being part of a community that continues to move forward together.
