Paige Klingler: Driven by Ambition and Dedication

"My parents always taught us, ‘You are who you are. You can do whatever you want, and nothing’s holding you back.’"

Paige Klingler, a senior at Newton Community High School, is living proof of the power of determination and individuality. As an Illinois State Scholar and a standout student, Paige exemplifies how hard work, family support, and a positive outlook can shape a promising future.

Despite her modest reaction to the Illinois State Scholar recognition, Paige’s achievements speak volumes. With a 4.0 GPA and 31 dual-credit hours under her belt, she is set to graduate with a head start on her college journey. “I’m planning to attend Eastern Illinois University for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing,” Paige shares. “Eventually, I’d like to pursue surgical nursing. It feels like the right balance of challenge and opportunity.”

Paige’s interest in healthcare stems from personal experiences. Diagnosed with scoliosis in middle school, she endured years of treatments, including wearing a 3D-printed back brace. “Spending so much time in hospitals made me want to help others,” she says. “Shriners Hospital in St. Louis was incredible. They even used advanced imaging to design my brace—it was fascinating.”

This fascination with medical innovation combined with her natural resilience has shaped her goals. Paige is unflinching in the face of challenges, whether they involve her condition or the rigors of academic life.

A well-rounded student, Paige has balanced academics with a rich array of extracurriculars. As the number-one player on Newton’s tennis team, she and her doubles partner earned third place in their conference. Paige is also a member of the marching band, where she plays the clarinet, and the school chorus.

Paige’s leadership roles further highlight her dedication to her peers and her school. As vice president of the student council, she assists in planning events and fostering a vibrant school community. “We put on a tailgate instead of the usual back-to-school dance this year, and it turned out great,” she says with a smile.

Her personal journey has been shaped by her family and their unwavering support. A commuter from Olney, Paige’s mother, a teacher at Newton, inspired her to attend the district’s schools starting in second grade. Her siblings also reflect the family’s independent spirit: her brother recently moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in broadcasting, and her sister is studying graphic design at the University of Southern Indiana.

“Growing up, my parents always emphasized being true to yourself,” Paige says. “That’s stayed with me, and it’s shaped how I approach everything.”

Paige’s ambitions extend beyond Newton. While she treasures the sense of community at her school, she is eager to explore new horizons. “I’d love to see what’s out there,” she says. “Places like Champaign and Carbondale are exciting, but family will always be important to me.”

Her teachers have played a vital role in her development, particularly Mrs. Will, her English and speech teacher, and student council advisor. “She’s been a constant source of encouragement,” Paige says.

As Paige prepares for the next chapter of her life, she reflects on the lessons she’s learned and the impact of her time at Newton Community High School. “This place has given me so much,” she says. “It’s helped me become the person I am today.”
