Welcome to the Spring Issue of Fly Together

There is something unmistakable about a community where people learn not just how to succeed, but how to persevere—and then choose to give that strength back to others.

As you turn the pages of this issue, you’ll find that thread woven throughout every story.

You’ll meet a remarkable group of students — our Illinois State Scholars — whose academic achievements reflect years of focus, discipline, and determination. But what stands out even more is not just what they’ve accomplished in the classroom—it’s how they’ve approached the journey. These are students who have learned to push through challenges, to hold themselves to high standards, and to keep moving forward even when the path isn’t easy.

Their stories take many forms. Some are preparing to step into fields like engineering, healthcare, and the skilled trades, ready to explore opportunities that will carry them beyond Jasper County. Others are already thinking about how they might one day return, bringing their skills and experiences back to the community that helped shape them.

Many of these students are still discovering who they are—trying new activities, following their interests, and learning through both success and failure. There is a quiet confidence that develops through that process, a resilience that cannot be taught in a single lesson but is built over time.

Alongside them are the educators who have made that growth possible. This issue honors teachers whose careers have been defined by consistency, adaptability, and an unwavering belief in their students. Whether helping a child find their voice, guiding them through obstacles, or simply showing up each day ready to meet students where they are, their influence is lasting and profound.

What ties all of these stories together is a deep sense of connection. In Jasper County, people support one another. They celebrate each other’s successes and step in during times of need. That sense of community is not accidental—it is built through relationships, shared values, and a commitment to doing what is right for the next generation.

Success here is not defined by a single path. It is found in academic achievement, in personal growth, in service to others, and in the willingness to keep moving forward.

To our families, staff, and community members, thank you for the role you play in making these stories possible. Your support continues to shape not only individual futures, but the future of our entire community.

As you read through this issue, I hope you feel a deep sense of pride—in our students, in our educators, and in the community we are privileged to serve.

With appreciation,
