Hadley Moyers: Finding Strength and Connection Through Sports

“We’re all so close and supportive of each other.”

Hadley Moyers, an 8th-grade student at Benton Jr. High has made an impressive mark since moving to Benton in the 6th grade. In just a few years, she has immersed herself in volleyball, track, and cheerleading, excelling in each sport while building strong bonds with her teammates and community.

Hadley’s favorite sport, volleyball, has been a key part of her life since she joined Benton Jr. High. Progressing from the JV team as a 6th grader to varsity by 7th grade, she has become a standout player.

As an outside hitter, Hadley thrives on the challenges of the game. “I like outside hitting the best,” she shares. “It gives me a chance to set goals for myself and overcome them.” Her drive to improve is evident in her approach to the sport, where she values both individual progress and team camaraderie.

For Hadley, the volleyball team feels like a family. “We’re all so close and supportive of each other,” she says. “It’s a great environment to be part of.” From intense practices to fundraising for equipment and tournaments, Hadley embraces every aspect of the team experience.

In addition, volleyball provides an outlet for Hadley to set personal goals and strive to reach them.  Ultimately, Hadley would like to take volleyball as far as she can - perhaps even to the Olympics!

Hadley’s talent isn’t limited to the volleyball court. On the track, she’s proven herself as a versatile and determined athlete. Competing in events like the 400-meter, 4x200 relay, 4x400 relay, and long jump, Hadley enjoys the combination of individual effort and teamwork that the track offers.

Her favorite event, the 4x200 relay, highlights her love for collaboration. “It’s all about trusting your teammates and working together,” she explains. While the handoffs can be nerve-wracking, she finds the experience rewarding.

The track team’s sense of community, with shared tents and loud encouragement at meets, adds to Hadley’s positive experience. “It can be stressful with so many people, but it’s also fun to cheer each other on and be part of something bigger,” she says.

As a flyer on Benton Jr. High’s cheerleading squad, Hadley demonstrates courage and trust in her teammates. At just 5’2”, she may be on the taller side for a flyer, but her skills and confidence make her a perfect fit for the role.

Cheerleading has also taught Hadley resilience. After a fall during a routine resulted in a concussion, she bounced back with determination. “I trust my bases completely,” she says, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and support in cheerleading.

While she enjoys the tumbling and stunts, Hadley plans to focus on volleyball and track in high school due to scheduling conflicts with cheer.

Hadley’s ambition doesn’t stop at sports. She dreams of becoming an orthodontist and is already considering the path she’ll need to take. “I know I’ll need to go to dental school, but I’m still figuring out where I want to go,” she says.

In the meantime, Hadley remains focused on her studies and sports, valuing the supportive environment at Benton Jr. High. “It feels like a family here,” she shares. “Everyone is respectful and kind, and the teachers and coaches really care about us.”

Hadley also appreciates the school’s emphasis on values “Respect Yourself. Respect Others. Respect Your School.” which is prominently displayed throughout the building. “We really live those out,” she says.
